At Toy Fair in New York iXL was named the hottest toy for next Christmas by Mattel CEO Robert Eckert. The iXL is an iPod lookalike device from company Fisher-Price, for kids ages 3 and up. It currently 6 apps: Art Studio, Game Player, Music Player, Note Book, Photo Album and Story Book and it will cost $79.99. It will be released this Summer.
Every year when the people in the industry gather at Toy Fair and all the new products for that year and beyond are showcased, retailers have the hard task of trying and wanting to predict consumer behaviors months ahead because of the way sales are made in the industry, where the bulk of it is made in the last 2 months of the year, for Christmas.
Has CEO of Toys “R” Us said, they don’t need a lot of inventory, they just need the right inventory. It’s up to retailers to choose their bets well and make contracts with manufacturers at Toy Fair of the products they think could sell.
I think the iXL could very well be a good hit on the toy market but I just think technology starts erupting a bit too early on kids nowadays. I mean the iXL is for preschoolers, isn’t that a bit too early?
